Mentors + Apprentices: Work from the 2026 Craft Apprentice Program

The Maine Crafts Association, in partnership with the Maine Arts Commission and the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, proudly announce the opening of the annual Craft Apprentice Program Capstone Exhibition. The event will be held at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Edgecomb, Maine (103 Cochran Road), opening October 2, 2026 and on view through October 27. The exhibition celebrates the culmination of a seven month journey of growth, creativity, and learning between mentor craft artists and apprentices from Maine and New Hampshire. The scope of the 2026 apprenticeship cycle spans traditional Japanese woodworking, jewelry, handbuilt & wheel thrown ceramics, atmospheric firing & glaze chemistry, community-based quiltmaking, apparel design & construction, as well as wild clay foraging.

Artist Talks:

This year, in addition to the opening reception we’re giving visitors an opportunity to hear directly from this inspiring cohort of fourteen artists about their experiences in the program. The work on view will speak for itself, but there is much more to this journey, and these artists are eager to share their stories, challenges, discoveries, and creative processes. The afternoon is also a great opportunity to learn more about the program, particularly for artists considering applying as mentors or apprentices in the future.

Opening Reception:

The reception will take place from 5:00 – 7:00pm on Friday, October 2. feature light refreshments, and is an opportunity for guests to meet the artists, learn about their creative processes, and browse completed pieces on display. The Barkan Gallery will be open Monday – Friday, 1:30pm – 5:00pm and by appointment for the duration of the exhibition.

Mentors + Apprentices: Work from the 2026 Craft Apprentice Program will travel to Concord, New Hampshire, and be on view beginning November 5 through December 4 with an opening reception to be held on Thursday, November 5 (5:00 – 6:30pm) by the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
