Nisa Smiley + Lauren Beach

MASTER

Nisa Smiley (Ellsworth, ME) is a professional studio jeweler and metalsmith with a public studio in Ellsworth. Her nature-inspired works incorporate precious metals, gemstones and found materials and have been exhibited in juried shows, fairs and fine art galleries throughout Maine and New England. Smiley earned a BFA in metal smithing from Maine College of Art in 2000.

“I recognize in Lauren true desire and motivation to improve her body of work, a genuine sense of curiosity and openness to learning anything new, and an eagerness to grow, both personally and professionally. I fully expect to see Lauren chasing after every opportunity that she was unable to before, with her new level of skill and professionalism.” – Nisa Smiley

APPRENTICE

Lauren Beach (Mt Desert, ME) creates jewelry in wood and metal in her home-based studio. A bone carving and inlay apprenticeship in New Zealand in 2010 was the catalyst for pursuing a studio practice, and in the last two years she has taught herself additional woodworking and lapidary skills.

“Working with a jeweler-mentor who has experience with wood and metal and can help me find creative ways to connect them is essential to my growth. I feel as though I am on the brink of being able to move towards making my studio practice a full time career and I feel this opportunity will help me make the jump.” – Lauren Beach
